28001An Introduction to Process Improvement Full!Process improvement is the standard tool for improving operations, and yet most process improvement efforts fall short of expectations. Too often we try to redesign work processes without attending to the organizational culture. And the sophistication of Six Sigma, Lean, BPM and other process improvement formats can lull us into thinking that all you need is to pick the right tool and just follow the instructions. Successful process improvement (at any level) requires an appreciation of the basic concepts even more than mastering the tool kit. And you can use those concepts to better understand and manage work even if you never start a formal process improvement effort. This course is for anyone who manages or supervises work and wants to improve the productivity, accuracy, quality, or enjoyment of that work. It is also appropriate for someone who works in a major work process (service delivery, project management, hardware upgrades, software development, etc.) and wants to shape the discussion of how to do it better and faster. This course is offered through ESA Employee Development.Professional Development01/17/201201/19/2012TUE8:30AM - 12:00PMTC2201/12/2012

28601Principles of Change Management New!The success of any organization change hinges on the acceptance and adoption of the desired change by the human capital it touches. Yet, project leaders and managers continue to underestimate the staff’s abilities to dig in and become barriers to success. A disproportionate amount of energy, focus and resources are continually sanctioned for the nuts and bolts, the tangibles, of a change effort rather than on the politics of human beings. A carefully designed comprehensive change management plan that supports the readiness of staff throughout the organization creates the opportunity for them to get onboard with the change. It is imperative that leaders begin to address the very important human element of organizational change. This highly experiential, academically based course provides the theoretical underpinning and tools and techniques, for leaders to begin successfully engaging staff in organizational changes. This training is provided by ESA Employee Development.Professional Development02/23/201202/23/2012THURS8:30AM - 4:30PMTC4102/16/2012

14001The Art, Science and Politics of Project Management Full!We all know intuitively that a craft is not in the tools – you can have a table saw, but not be a good carpenter. Yet some people believe project management is primarily employing WBS, RBS, PERT charts, GANTT Charts, Critical Path, etc. In other words, they use the tools, but may not really master the craft. So what is the essential craft for project management? Project management is not something you do by yourself at your computer, or something you do in the quiet of the evening after everyone has left. Project management can only happen in meetings, in conversations, in presentations, in group debates. And the value of the tools can only be tested by the quality of the conversations they initiate or support. This course is designed for those who know the basic toolkit and want to become craftsmen in the crucial trade of managing projects. Requirements: Bring a current, early-stage project you are working on.
