Dave spoke to 1st and 2nd graders at Curtner Elementary School in Milpitas about how they can partner with the
County to keep the planet alive.

Dave joined Rod Diridon, Sr., President and Founder of the California Trolley and Railroad Corporation, Bert George, President of the San Jose Rotary Club, and Albert Balagso, Director of San Jose's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services, in cutting the ribbon and opening up the Happy Hollow Trolley Line at Kelley Park.

On June 1st, Dave and the Silicon Valley Education Foundation sponsored the Bus Trip to Sacramento bringing local constituents to meet with their state representatives to lobby for school funding. For more pictures, click here.


Dave recognized the students and thanked the teachers of San Jose's Merryhill Elementary School for
taking an interest in saving the environment and for joining Cortese's Climate Kids Club.

On May 7th, 2009, Dave gave the welcoming remarks at the Senior Nutrition Program's 35th Anniversary Celebration.

At the May 5th Board of Supervisors meeting, Dave and his fellow supervisors proclaimed the month of May
to be "Foster Care Month" in Santa Clara County. Dave presented the proclamation to Dawn Haddaway,
President of the Kinship, Adoptive and Foster Parent Association.

Also at the May 5th meeting, Dave and his fellow supervisors proclaimed the month of May to be the
"Lions Club International's Recycle for Sight Month" in Santa Clara County.

On April 23, 2009 at the ABAG General Assembly, Dave took part in the panel discussion on the issues of climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through land use and transportation planning.

        


Dave and the Board of Supervisors proclaimed April 21, 2009 as the "Santa Clara County
Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923.

Dave and his fellow Supervisors proclaimed the month of April as the Santa Clara County Garden and Green Month to
celebrate the grassroots efforts that our local communities have undertaken to be more environmentally friendly and
to encourage more county residents to do the same.



Dave participated in People Acting in Community Together's community meeting on the topic of quality education.


Dave volunteered to deliver meals as part of the Senior Nutrition Program's March for Meals Campaign.

Dave attended the Renaming Ceremony of the Gordon Chan Post Office with many other local and state elected officials including fellow Supervisors Donald Gage and Ken Yeager. Dave presented Anita Chan and her family a Board of Supervisors' resolution commending them for carrying on the philanthropic work of her late husband.
