Mission Statement
"To further the vision of our diverse organization by promoting learning and respect."

The Department provides educational programs and interventions to promote a work environment where every employee can function effectively and grow professionally.

Equal Opportunity (EO) provides comprehensive services to the County Organization in compliance with Federal and State laws, and County Policies.  EO administers a discrimination/harassment complaint process for employees and applicants for employment; the County's Reasonable Job Accommodation Policy and Procedures; conducts training in the prevention of Sexual Harassment and Discrimination, Diversity, and Reasonable Accommodation; develops and administers the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program and conducts outreach to disadvantaged businesses to enhance participation in County contracting opportunities.

Employee Development (ED) provides the Leadership and Working programs for all employees as a basis for effective interpersonal communication and supervision throughout the County.  These, along with a wide array of professional development programs and classes, can be found in the twice-yearly published "CountyWise Catalog".  In addition to the published classes, ED serves as a resource to departments for off-sites and classes tailored to specific needs.

Employee Development staff administer the education reimbursement programs negotiated in the bargaining unit contracts.  The programs pay out over $1,000,000 each year to employees attending professional events, continuing their education or paying for required professional licenses.

Special Personnel Programs, located within Employee Development, provides services ranging from Vacation Donation to intervention and assistance to survivors of employees.
