While change is an inevitable part of our lives, many of us are not prepared for it.
One of these unwelcome changes is dealing with the possibility or actuality of a layoff. The County of Santa Clara’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is here to assist you and your family members to deal with the challenges of this uncertain time.
To Employees:
EAP can help you address your emotional reactions as well as help you determine goals and priorities for your future. EAP can provide you with information about helpful community resources, including financial, housing and job search counseling. Normally EAP offers up to five free, confidential counseling sessions (per calendar year) to current employees and their immediate family members. However, if you are actually laid off, EAP will extend services to you and your family members for up to two consecutive years from the date of your layoff.
To Managers:
If you are a manager preparing to implement reductions, your employees may have a variety of reactions to the changes. Some will be coping with losing or changing their job and some will be coping with surviving the reductions including worry about increased workload. EAP offers consultation with you and can provide training regarding coping with the stress of change in the workplace.
