* Currently we are two Mental Health clients, each working part-time, from 10-12 hrs/wk
* We are dedicated to the ongoing commitment for consumer involvement in the areas of planning, implementation, and delivery of Mental Health Services
* We advocate for client rights and are trained in peer counseling
* We sit on panels and boards
* We provide training on client perspectives in-house and in the community
* We collect and share resource material pertaining to the needs of mental health clients
* We are currently facilitating outreach/support groups at locked facilities, such as Crestwood
Priority Goals
* The office provides leadership for the development of system-wide client involvement, client advocacy and self-help
* The Office of Consumer Affairs will help to improve the Adult/Older Adult System of Care, by establishing a strong consumer presence within the Mental Health Administration
Other Responsibilities
* We work to reduce stigma/discrimination in the community through education and advocacy
* We provide a client perspective on Mental Health policies
* One of our future goals is to network with peer-operated groups and self-help programs across the United States and abroad so we can make use of resources, strategies and insights which have proven effective in other locations
* We attend training, conferences, workshops, etc., in order to develop competencies, and knowledge, which can be shared with the local client community and local Mental Health providers
Santa Clara County Client Self-Help Centers
* The County of Santa Clara is funding three strategically located self-help centers in Central, North and South County.
* The Office of Comsumer Affairs is committed to provide ongoing support for the implementation of all three centers
* Our Vision is to meet the many unmet needs of clients in our county, such as affordable housing, peer support, meaningful jobs, and other needs
