1 out of every 32 Americans is currently in jail, on probation or on parole. While women comprise a smaller percentage of the overall incarcerated population, the numbers of women coming into the system are climbing at a much faster rate.
As the County provides services for public health, safety and well-being of residents, often absent from discussion is the fundamental question “How does this decision impact the women”?
In a resolution passed in 2005, the BOS directed CSW to convene a CEDAW Task Force (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination) to educate communities about this international women’s rights treaty.
