The Planning Office is in the process of updating the County’s Housing Element. The Housing Element is a component of the General Plan that addresses the housing needs of unincorporated Santa Clara County. A Housing Element is a mandatory element of each jurisdiction’s General Plan, and it must be updated every five years or as otherwise determined by the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).
The Draft County of Santa Clara Housing Element Update 2009-2014 (referred to as the 2009 Update) is now available for public review and comment. The Draft 2009 Update has been sent to HCD for a mandatory 60-day review and comment period, and the County Planning Office encourages and is actively seeking comments from those members of the public interested in housing conditions, needs, policies, and programs for the unincorporated County. Please consider attending one or more of the community outreach meetings listed below.

As comments from the public are received, Planning Office staff will take them into consideration and revise the Draft 2009 Update, as appropriate, in conjunction with the comments received from the State. Comments from State HCD are expected by August 10, 2009. After HCD comments are received, Planning Office staff will prepare a revised Draft 2009 Update for consideration and adoption by the Board of Supervisors.
