Historic Preservation Week
Picture of a WindmillPreservation Week was created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1971 to spotlight grassroots preservation efforts around the country. It has grown into an annual celebration observed from small towns to big cities. Through events like tours, talks and seminars, communities show how historic preservation honors the past and builds the future.

The theme for 2002 was "Preserving the Spirit of Place," a celebration of America's diverse history and how historic preservation helps save that heritage. Preservation succeeds because of the work of real people committed to revitalizing historic sites, landscapes and neighborhoods.
