Preservation Week was created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1971 to spotlight grassroots preservation efforts around the country. It has grown into an annual celebration observed from small towns to big cities. Through events like tours, talks and seminars, communities show how historic preservation honors the past and builds the future. |
Each Preservation Week highlights a different aspect of historic preservation. The theme for 2002 was "Preserving the Spirit of Place," a celebration of America's diverse history and how historic preservation helps save that heritage. Preservation succeeds because of the work of real people committed to revitalizing historic sites, landscapes and neighborhoods. |
In 2002, the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors presented a resolution to the Historical Heritage Commission designating May 12 - 18, 2002 as National Historic Preservation Week in Santa Clara County and calling on the people of Santa Clara County to observe the week with programs, ceremonies and activities, and commending the Historical Heritage Commission. |
