Redistricting is the process by which local government ensures that one person's vote carries the same weight as that of any other person within the context of representational government. Redistricting impacts voters whose voting districts have changed and as a result where and how they will vote.
Based on the 2000 census, the Board of Supervisors adopted a map that moved approximately 90,000 persons or about five (5) percent of the County's population from one district to another. The changes were made respecting as much as possible existing neighborhood boundaries. They create a balance of the population between districts, and comply with the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and other established criteria.
