The mission of Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is to provide quality healthcare services to the residents of our county. Last year we cared for more than 90,000 patients in the Emergency Department alone, and every year the demand for our services grows. The Emergency Department and Trauma Center are valuable community resources, saving lives every day.
The Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, caring for a wide range or illnesses and injuries, many of which may be life threatening. At least two physicians experienced in emergency care are on duty at all times. In-house medical staff are available for surgical, orthopedic, obstetric/gynecologic, pediatric, burn and anesthesia services. The Emergency Department is accessible by ambulance, auto, bus, helicopter, and walk-in traffic.
The Emergency Department is one of only three Level 1 Trauma Centers in the San Francisco Bay Area, verified by the American College of Surgeons. This is highest level of certification possible and our Trauma Center is the only Level 1 center in the City of San Jose.
