The staff of the Orthopedic Surgery Department includes several accomplished orthopedic surgeons with specialties in spinal surgery, trauma, sports medicine and pediatric orthopedics, as well as a highly trained staff of nurses and physician assistants.

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is a teaching affiliate of Stanford University’s Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program. The history of cooperation between the two departments is long standing and has a direct positive impact on patient care at both.

Jeffrey J. Meter, MD, Chairman, Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Director, Spine Surgery

Dr. Meter received his M.D. from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia.  He then completed a residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in D.C.  He has received fellowship training in orthopedic traumatology from Professor Ruedi in Chur, Switzerland and in spinal surgery from Dr. James Reynolds at SpineCare in Daly City, CA. 

Prior to coming to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Dr. Meter served as Director of Spine Surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center, managing spinal disorders and trauma from the Pacific Region, as well as teaching orthopedic residents at Tripler Army Medical Center and University of Hawaii as Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Hawaii and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  He served and deployed with the 8th Forward Surgical Team as well as 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

Dr. Meter has expertise and experience in treating traumatic spinal injuries and injuries to the musculoskeletal system as well as extensive experience in the management of the full spectrum of spinal disorders.  He has published extensively and has research interests in spinal and musculoskeletal injury.

He is a member of the Department of Homeland Security’s Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT CA-6) and the International Medical Surgical Response Team (IMSuRT-West).

Dr. Comstock received his M.D. at the University of Michigan, where he completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency.  He performed a fellowship in Orthopedic Traumatology at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston under Bruce D. Browner, M.D.

Dr. Comstock is a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Stanford University.  He recently received the Sal Halpern Orthopaedic Educator Award for excellence in teaching Stanford residents.

Dr. Comstock is a fellowship trained orthopedic traumatologist who has extensive presentations and publications to his credit.

Dr. Tabrizi received his M.D. from the University of Ottawa, Canada, where he also completed a residency in Orthopedic Surgery.  He went on to complete fellowships in Orthopedic Trauma at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia and in Arthroplasty and Orthopedic Oncology at Ottawa General Hospital.

Dr. Tabrizi holds an appointment with Stanford University as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery.
