Santa Clara Valley Medical Center has served as a regional pediatric center for more that 50 years. With more than 80 board certified specialists in pediatrics and neonatology, the Pediatrics Department provides quality care in nearly every pediatric sub-specialty. Because these doctors have completed several years of additional training to earn board certification, the Pediatrics Department has the expertise needed to give patients exceptional care. Our staff is dedicated to providing the best possible care for all children.

The medical staff of the Pediatrics Department understands the special needs of sick or injured children. The department was designed to be a friendly, efficient and comfortable place for our patients and their families.

One floor of the main hospital is dedicated to pediatrics and includes a 30-bed General Pediatric Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Conscious Sedation Services, and an Acute Inpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Program, which is regarded as one of the very best in the United States. Physicians are in these units 24 hours a day.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is the only PICU in San Jose accredited by the California Children’s Services unit of the California Department of Health Services. In this unit, physicians, nurses and others medical professionals care for critically ill or injured infants, children, and adolescents. The PICU is staffed by board certified pediatric critical care physicians, nurses certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical care, and other medical and support staff. A certified child life specialist is available to support and prepare children and families for difficult procedures. Physicians and nurses are on-site 24 hours a day to provide the best care to our patients.

Every day the Emergency Department at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center treats children and adolescents who have been seriously ill or injured. Pediatricians oversee treatment of children in the Emergency Department. These pediatricians have special training in pediatric emergency medicine.

In addition to the services provided at the hospital, Santa Clara Valley Medical Center operates six outpatient pediatric clinics and offers the full range of routine and specialty pediatric services to healthy infants, children, and adolescents. Additional serves are available to children with chronic illnesses. Two pediatric urgent care clinics offer services daytimes, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
