Sheriff's After School Youth Program

Community and Education Programs

On March 14, 1996, the Office of the Sheriff of Santa Clara County initiated an After School Youth Program for at risk and under privileged children. A Deputy Sheriff is assigned to the Pala Junior High School to coordinate after school studies in the library and athletic programs in the school gymnasium.

The purpose of this program is to provide a safe learning environment for students and also encourage involvement in after school programs. The program also provides an opportunity for deputy sheriffs to form positive relationships with junior high school age youth. The law enforcement role model provides direction, accountability and positive reinforcement of basic core values. In addition, the program stresses the importance of respecting the rights of others and the significance of academics and continuing one's education.

Currently, the Program involves between 50 and 75 children and has been well accepted within the community.
