 Gangs: Nuestra Familia (8 hrs.) (Sept 13; Morgan Hill)
Course covers history and current status of the Nuestra Familia criminal organization. It will include the governing body and documents, current players, how the organization operates in prison and on the street, ways that they communicate, and how the effect Norteno street gangs

 Child Exploitation Investigation (16 hrs.) (Sep 15-16, 2010; Morgan Hill)
POST-certified course designed to help investigators and patrol officers successfully investigate cases of child exploitation. Instruction will include human trafficking, serial predators, child pornography, and much more.


 Basic Gang Investigation (9 hrs.) (Sept 27; Morgan Hill)
Course on how to identify gang indicators and behavior, how to properly document gang information, how to prepare for court and how to testify about gangs. These techniques are relevant for Patrol, Investigators, Custody Personnel, Parole and Probation.

 Basic SWAT Course (80 hrs.) $800 (Sep 27- Oct 8, 2010; 0700-1600; San Jose)
Course is designed to be introductory training for individuals who are assigned to a SWAT-Tactical Team. Topics address the basic concepts of SWAT, and include practical applications and problem solving simulations as effective learning methods. This course meets the P.O.S.T. SWAT operational guidelines and standardized training recommendations.

  Dive Rescue I (24 hrs.) (Oct 2-4, 2010; Cupertino)
Three day training course for certified divers and surface support personnel. Successful completion provides basic methods and skills necessary to function effectively at a water accident scene.

  Basic Police Academy (920 hrs.)    (Oct 5, 2010 - March 25, 2011; Morgan Hill)
Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office POST-certified Regular Basic Academy is open to outside agencies.


 Death Investigation (16 hrs.) (Oct 6-7, 2010; Morgan Hill)
POST-certified provides patrol officers and investigators with the skills necessary to conduct comprehensive and thorough death investigations. Training includes: legal issues related to death investigation, wound recognition, apparent suicide, apparent accidental death, child death protocol, major crime scene management, officer involved/in-custody death, evidence recognition/photography/documentation, and witness interviews.


 Gangs: Northern Ryders and 25 Pesetas (8 hrs.) (Oct 10; Morgan Hill)
Course covers the history and current status of the “Northern Ryders” and their Sureno counterparts the “25 Pesetas”. Course includes how these groups operate both in custody and on the street, the current players, ways that they communicate, and how they effect other Norteno and Sureno gangs.

  Crisis Intervention Training (40 hrs.) (Oct 18-22, 2010; Palo Alto)

Sponsored by Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and Santa Clara County Department of Mental Health, will provide peace officers and dispatchers with the skills and knowledge to recognize individuals with mental illness, identify potential disorders, and minimize escalations in contacts with mentally ill individuals. Training focuses on developing techniques for approaching the mentally ill (including individuals with developmental disabilities), communication, de-escalation, and listening skills, suicide risk factors, the "SUICIDE BY COP" phenomenon, cultural issues, case study presentations, community resources, and officer wellness.

 Media Relations (16 hrs.) (Oct 20-21, 2010; Morgan Hill)
POST-certified course focuses on Press Information Personnel and strategies for effective television, radio, and newspaper interviews. Students will also learn how to write press releases, conduct press conferences, and how to handle cases involving department members.


 Composite Drawing Seminars (40 hrs.) (Nov 1-5, 2010; Morgan Hill)
POST-certified courses on composite drawing. You do not have to be an artist to create an effective sketch of a subject. From basic to re-construction drawings, this week the JTC offers 4 unique 40 hour sketch artist seminars. Click on the links below to read about each class.  Advanced Sniper School (50 hrs.) $500 (Nov 1-5, 2010; San Jose; 0700-1700, with one day adjusted for low light training)
For individuals who have already completed a basic sniper course, this POST certified course teaches students advanced skills in rifle marksmanship, maintenance, long range target engagements, mission planning, scouting, intelligence gathering, moving target engagements, camouflage techniques, as well as employing rural and urban field-craft. Activities include realistic scenarios. This is a physically demanding 50 hour course, requiring students be in good physical shape. 

Required Equipment: Sniper grade rifle and scope capable of maintaining a 1” group at 100 yards, rifle sling, 400 rounds of match-grade ammunition, rifle cleaning kit, all related tactical call-out gear required by your department, backpack, red/flashlight, eye/ear protection, ballistic vest, tactical BDU uniform, knee / elbow pads, hat, sunscreen, face paint, binoculars or spotting scope and shooting log (if currently assigned as a sniper).

Recommended Equipment: Night vision (if used by your department), laser range finder & wind meter, compact digital camera with USB cord (one per team), thumb drive & rain gear, ghillie suit.

 CPOA Legslative Update (Nov 30, 2010, 0900-1600; San Jose)
POST-certified course focuses on the changes in statutory law enacted in the current California legislative session that will impact law enforcement in 2011. This course also brings you the latest court cases that impact law enforcement.
