Santa Clara County, along with the rest of the nation, has a rapidly growing senior population. Many seniors and dependent adults are vulnerable to financial abuse. To address this problem the Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) formed FAST (Financial Abuse Specialist Team) to respond quickly to intervene in incidences of financial abuse.
In Santa Clara County, our elders often own homes whose values have risen tremendously in recent years. Houses have sold within an hour with numerous bids to purchase. Incidents of elder financial abuse have become common. The need for rapid response to address elder financial abuse has become necessary. FAST rapid response teams enable immediate intervention to preserve a client’s assets thus preventing loss due to fraud or undue influence. Teams include representatives from:
- Public Guardian’s Office
- Adult Protective Services
- District Attorney’s Office
- County Counsel’s Office
