Licensing Requirements for Foster/Resource Families - Foster Parent Recruitment

  • Family must be residents of Santa Clara County.
  • Applicant(s) must be at least 18 years of age or older (single, two-parent, or same gender families of all ethnicities and income levels with or without children).
  • Family must complete application packet.
  • All adults 18 years and older must be fingerprinted and TB tested.
  • All caretakers must attend the 27 hours PRIDE Training Program.
  • There must be adequate bedroom space to accommodate all family members, including foster children.
  • Family must have adequate income to cover their family's needs.
  • Smoke alarms must be installed and in good working order.
  • All weapons must be in a locked secured place.
  • If any adult who lives in the home has a criminal record, it may prevent the family from being licensed. If that person is on probation or parole, however, the family cannot be licensed.
  • Spanking and other kinds of corporal punishment of foster children are not allowed.
  • The home must have a working telephone.
  • Home and outdoor activity space must be safe and in good repair.
  • Pools, spas, or any body of water must be fenced or covered.
  • All licensed adults in the family must be trained in First Aid & CPR.
  • Medications and poisons must be locked up.
