Improved Access To Mental Health Services

Valley Health Plan now provides improved access to Mental Health Counseling services for you and your family. You are no longer required to request this type of referral from your Primary Care Physician (PCP), although you may want to discuss your need for this type of service with your PCP. Your PCP can be helpful in ways other than arranging for Mental Health Counseling services. NOTE:  A "Treatment Authorization Request for Services" form must be completed by your PCP or your VHP Network Mental Health Provider and approved by VHP's Mental Health Medical Director to receive outpatient psychiatric services.

To access Mental Health Services and receive a direct referral for outpatient Mental Health Counseling services, simply call our Utilization Management Department's nurse at 408.885.4647. The nurse will make the referral to a VHP Mental Health Provider for you. A referral must be in place prior to your visit. If you are in crisis and you are calling during non-business hours, call the 24 hour Valley Connection Advice Nurse at 888.334.1000.

To ensure 100% coverage, you must be seen by a VHP Mental Health Provider and have the referral in place prior to your visit to that provider.
