Sec. A6-61. Membership.

The Commission shall consist of seven members by July 1, 2012. One member shall be allocated to each supervisorial district and appointed by the respective Supervisor. The remaining two members shall be at large nominations appointed one each by two Supervisors on a rotational basis. The rotational sequence for making these two appointments shall be determined by the Board of Supervisors and thereafter shall continue as so designated.

The term of each member shall be four years. No member shall be eligible to serve on such Commission for more than three consecutive terms in addition to any portion of any unexpired term which may have been served. A vacancy shall exist and shall be reported to the Board of Supervisors whenever a Commissioner fails to attend more than three consecutive regular meetings of the Commission in a 12-month period without good cause entered on the minutes of the Commission; or when a member is unavailable or no longer able to participate for any reason.

Persons appointed shall have a demonstrated interest, competence or knowledge in historic preservation. Three members shall be appointed from among professionals in the disciplines of architecture, history, architectural history, planning, archaeology or other historic preservation-related disciplines such as urban planning, American studies, American civilization, cultural geography or cultural anthropology, to the extent that such professionals are available in the community. Commission membership shall also include lay members who have demonstrated special interest, competence, experience or knowledge in historic preservation, American studies, cultural anthropology, cultural geography or other historic preservation-related disciplines, and matters relating to the historical and cultural heritage of Santa Clara County.
