Spay/Neuter Program for Cats & Dogs

The County of Santa Clara recognizes the benefits achieved by providing a widely available, low-cost spay/neuter program for cats and dogs. This program is available to all County residents through the participating veterinary clinics listed below. Pricing and pre-surgery requirements vary by vet, so call in advance for more information and to make an appointment. The following services are offered:

FERAL CATS

  • Spay/neuter surgery plus rabies and FVRCP vaccinations.
  • The cat's ear will be notched for easy identification as one already "fixed."
  • The cost is $10 for residents of unincorporated Santa Clara County and the cities of Gilroy, Sunnyvale or Mountain View.  The cost to all other County residents is $25.
  • Cats must be feral (not friendly) and must be brought to the veterinary clinic in a humane trap.

PET CATS
  • Spay/neuter surgery plus rabies and FVRCP vaccinations.
  • The cost for all County residents is the veterinary clinic's regular price less $30.
  • Cats must be brought to the veterinary clinic in a secure carrier.

DOGS
  • Spay/neuter surgery plus a rabies vaccination.
  • The cost for all County residents is the veterinary clinic's regular price less $60.
  • Dogs must be brought to the veterinary clinic on a leash.

PIT BULL-TYPE and LARGE BREED DOGS
  • Spay/neuter surgery plus a rabies vaccination.
  • The cost for all County residents is free for male dogs of any age and female dogs age six months or younger.  For female dogs over the age of six months, the cost is the veterinary clinic's regular price less $100.
  • Large breed dogs are dogs that, when adult, weigh 45 pounds or more.  Pit Bull-type dogs and large breed dogs are identified by the participating veterinary clinic.
  • Dogs must be brought to the veterinary clinic on a leash.
