The County of Santa Clara has a great legacy, from being home to California's first capital city, through the Valley of Heart's Delight, and now the valley of innovation. A significant part of that legacy comes from the past leadership of the Board of Supervisors. To properly document the history of the county and the board, Supervisor Cortese created the county archives task force comprised of former county supervisors and with the help of the County Executive, Jeff Smith, and the County Archivist, Trista Raezer.
This website contains a list of the retired county supervisors and the years that they served and showcases the interviews that were videotaped with the help of
CreaTV San Jose. These videos provide an insight into the work of the former supervisors, detailing such stories as how the county park system began, the development of the Valley Transportation Authority, the creation of the Children's Health Initiative and the time that the entire Board of Supervisors received jail sentences. The website also includes historical documents from each of the supervisors' tenures and more documents are being added. Click on any of the links below to be taken to the page dedicated to that former county supervisor.
