New Program Will Step Up Efforts to Wipe Out Graffiti

Recognizing the need to fight blight in unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County, the Board of Supervisors on June 24, 2014, created a Graffiti Cleanup Program with the goal of having graffiti removed within 48 hours. The unanimous vote came during the last meeting before the July recess on a recommendation by Supervisor Dave Cortese.

County to Launch Public Awareness Campaign to Keep July 4 Safe

The news conference will call attention to the dangers of illegal fireworks in causing injuries and igniting fires. At Supervisor Cortese’s request, the Board of Supervisors approved a $70,000 contribution to the Rotary Club of San Jose’s Fourth of July Fireworks Display in Downtown San Jose, with $20,000 going to the County Fire Department to launch an education campaign about the dangers of illegal fireworks.

Board of Supervisors approve study of living wage ordinance

Supervisor Dave Cortese announced that on May 20, 2014, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisor approved a proposal to analyze, gather stakeholder input, and report on the feasibility and fiscal implications for the County of a County living wage ordinance. This proposal, which was put forward by Supervisor Cortese and Supervisor Yeager, also calls for the creation of a Family Friendly Employer Certification Program.

Cortese Re-opening Senior On-Site Facilities for Cooking Seniors' Meals at Centers

In an effort to improve meals served at senior nutrition centers, Supervisor Dave Cortese is asking that the County invest additional budget dollars so that food can be cooked on-site at the centers that have kitchens. The proposal will be heard at the Children, Seniors, and Families Committee meeting on May 29, 2014 and then again during the Santa Clara County Budget Hearings in June. read more
