Dear Neighbor,

Wow, this year is passing quickly – I can hardly believe that May is upon us!  April’s showers have brought us May flowers.  Spring and election time are in the air.  On June 5th, Santa Clara County will hold its primary election.  I would like to encourage you to take the time to read up on the various measures and candidates on the ballot.  With the recent redistricting, educating yourself is more important than ever.  The candidate(s) you voted for in the past may not be on your ballot because you have been placed in a new district.  It is important for you to educate yourself before you head out to the polls.

I would like to encourage you to visit the Santa Clara Count Registrar of Voters website at http://www.sccgov.org/sites/rov/Pages/Registrar-of-Voters.aspx.  Here you will find a wealth of information about voting, updating your address, and voting by mail.  You can also learn more about redistricting, volunteering at the polls, and becoming an elections officer.

Most important, though, I would like to encourage you to exercise your right to vote.  Not every nation provides the opportunity for its citizens to make decisions on who should run its government or how the government should be run.  This opportunity should not be taken for granted.  Wars have been fought over the very freedoms, such as the right to vote, that we have in the United States.  Many Americans have served in those wars; many were lost in those wars.  With Memorial Day coming soon, you can honor those who have served by participating in the activities preserved through their sacrifices.  Please take the time to learn about the issues and candidates, then exercise your right to vote.

There are many upcoming events and information I would like to share with you (see below).  For additional events and information, please visit my website at www.supervisorcortese.org.  As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns.  I can be reached by e-mail at dave.cortese@bos.sccgov.org or call my office at 408-299-5030.

Sincerely,

Dave Cortese
County Supervisor, Third District
