Dear Friend,

Last month I had the pleasure of co-organizing a three-part economic summit with Supervisor Wasserman on behalf of the Board of Supervisors. The summit was a series of events that focused on what the county can do to promote job growth in various emerging industries: green business, healthcare, and small business. It was a great opportunity for the Board members to hear the views of leaders in the community. If you would like to know more, I invite you to watch the events on video or read the transcripts online by following the link for the appropriate industry:

Do you know someone who wants to register to vote or has voting questions?
The November election is coming. The deadline to register to vote is October 22, 2012. If you are not registered and have questions about registering to vote or you want to register, please visit the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters website. This website is also useful for those who are already registered but would like to update their address or have questions about their ballot and voting.

Would you like to meet our new Registrar of Voters?

Barry Garner, Santa Clara County’s new Registrar of Voters, is the person in charge of our elections. Many people have questions about what happens behind-the-scenes of an election. Barry Garner will be holding a meet and greet session on September 29 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Registrar of Voters Office, 1555 Berger Drive building 2, San Jose. It is an opportunity for you to learn more about election rules and ask questions. For more information, please visit the Registrar of Voters’ website.

Have you heard about the new area code for parts of our region?
Some areas of Santa Clara County will soon be getting new area code: 669. Starting October 20, residents in the 408 area code will need to dial the area code plus the phone number in order to make a call. This means that your automatic dialing lists may need to be updated in your devices such as phones, computers, fax machines, and security alarms. Starting November 20, new phone lines may be assigned to the new area code. For more information on the new area code or dialing regulations in Santa Clara County, please visit the California Public Utilities Commission website at www.cpuc.ca.gov or contact Lara McCabe at my office by calling 408-299-5033.

Are you, or is someone you know, at risk of losing a home due to foreclosure?

The Housing Trust of Santa Clara County has started a new program with assistance on foreclosure relief. Through this program, you will learn valuable information about foreclosure, and how to avoid foreclosure scams. For more information, please visit the program’s website at www.foreclosurehelpscc.org or call the Housing Trust at 408-293-6000.
