Recognition of CalWORKS participants
Supervisor Cortese joined with his colleagues on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors to recognize and commend the participants in the California Work Opportunities and Responsibilities to Kids Program including recognizing Safeway Stores as the 2009 Employer of the Year.
Supervisor Cortese recognized John David Hernandez for his outstanding achievements as a participant of the CalWORKs Program which provides relevant job skills, a plan for success, and effective tools to best prepare public assistance clients for the type of jobs that lead to self sufficiency through education, training, career advancement, and support services such as childcare, transportation, counseling, and substance abuse prevention.
St. Andrews Day Celebration
Supervisor Cortese joined with the community to celebrate St. Andrew's Day.
Council for a Parliament of World's Religions
Supervisor Dave Cortese and Mayor Chuck Reed participated in a reception honoring the County of Santa Clara and the City of San Jose for being chosen as the inaugural members of the Council for a Parliament of World's Religions' Partner Cities Network. This new network was created to unite grassroots, interfaith movements in an effort to build a more just, peaceful and sustainable society.
Swift Justice 5K Run
Supervisor Cortese participated in the Swift Justice 5K Run as a part of the larger Silicon Valley Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5k Run/Walk to support Santa Clara University's Katherine and George Alexander Community Law Center's work providing free legal services to the community.
