The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has a limited number of paid student internship positions available during the summer months starting in June. Deadline to apply is March 31. This internship allows motivated college students who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in the criminal justice system and working to help the District Attorney represent the People of Santa Clara.
Applicants must be at least 18-years-old. Our office offers a variety of student internship opportunities to learn about the criminal justice system by working closely with prosecutors, investigators, support staff, as well as court officers and law enforcement representatives. Student interns may collect and analyze statistics, perform research and special studies on issues affecting individual cases; assemble reports, documents or manuals for distribution; contact witnesses - civilian and law enforcement - regarding court dates; assemble case evidence notebooks; sort evidence; review jailhouse tapes; and provide court support.
As an undergraduate student, you will be given critical responsibilities that assist the function of the District Attorney's Office. You will also have the opportunity to observe courtroom proceedings, join the field trips, participate in a police ride-along, and attend the in house training sessions.
The student intern hours will vary depending on assignments and availability.
If a student is interested in the paid college internship program, the student needs to do the following:
- Go to the county website at www.sccgov.org click on the employment opportunity tab and search for the Student Internship Program. Follow all of the instructions and submit the information to the County of Santa Clara.
- Applications will be reviewed and you will be contacted for the interview process.
If you are chosen to participate in the student internship program, you will be required to complete a Criminal Record Information Check. These forms are thoroughly reviewed by our Bureau of Investigation, and students are encouraged to be candid. Acceptance into the Student Internship Program in the Office of the District Attorney is conditioned upon the candidate passing a background check.
If you have any questions about this program, you may contact College Student Intern Program Coordinator, Linda Binder by e-mail at LBinder@da.sccgov.org or by phone 408-792-2696.
