Mobile Food Facilities

Mobile food facilities (MFFs) are trucks, trailers, vans, carts, or any portable units used to prepare, sell, or transport food.  All MFFs conducting business in Santa Clara County must have a valid permit from the Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health (DEH).  DEH conducts inspections of all MFFs that operate within the County to ensure that the food is safe for the public.
 
HOW TO OBTAIN A PERMIT TO OPERATE FOR NEW MFFs and CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP:
 
  • Complete and submit the MFF APPLICATION PACKET.  The packet can be submitted via email at DEHWEB@deh.sccgov.org or in person at the DEH front counter.
  • Schedule and pass the initial inspection.  Once a completed “MFF Application Packet” is submitted, you will be contacted to schedule the initial inspection. Vehicles/carts must be brought in to Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health (DEH) for the scheduled inspection.  Bring vehicles/carts ready to pass inspection and have all equipment clean and in working order.  The SELF INSPECTION CHECKLIST is provided in the application packet for reference. 
  • Pay annual permit fee.  Permit fees can be paid by cash, check or money order at the DEH front counter, after passing the inspection.   Please note, Credit Cards will NOT be accepted for new accounts.

Mobile Food Facility – Full Food Prep             $635.00
 
A permit will only be issued after all the above requirements are met.
 
HOW TO RENEW YOUR PERMIT FOR EXISTING MFFs:
 
  • Schedule and pass the renewal inspection.  Inspections may be scheduled at DEH front counter or by calling (408) 918-3400.  You must have an active Facility ID number available in order to schedule the renewal inspection.   Vehicles/carts must be brought in to DEH for the renewal inspection.  Bring vehicles/carts ready to pass inspection and have all equipment clean and in working order.  Please see the SELF INSPECTION CHECKLIST for reference. 
  • Complete and submit the COMMISSARY AGREEMENT FORM form.  You may download the form or it may be picked up at the DEH front counter.  The completed form can be submitted via fax (408) 258-5891, email at DEHWEB@deh.sccgov.org , US mail or in person at the DEH front counter.
  • Pay current and any delinquent permit fees in full.  Permit renewal fees can be paid by cash, check or debit/credit card.  Payments can be paid at DEH front counter, submitted by mail or PAID ONLINE.

Your permit to operate will be renewed once all the above requirements are met.
