The County of Santa Clara allows for employees to take various types of paid and unpaid leaves of absence. It is important that you communicate with your supervisor if you are planning on taking a leave of absence. Refer to your appropriate Memorandum of Understanding for information regarding the types of leaves available to you. In addition, it is important that you contact your Departmental Employee Service Center before you begin your leave of absence.

Unpaid Leaves of Absence and Your Benefits
The County will pay the single cost of the basic benefit package for full-time employees while on an unpaid leave of absence (specific to leave type) for a maximum of thirteen (13) payperiods.
Returning from a Leave of Absence
Returning from a leave of absence requires that you communicate with both your immediate supervisor and your Departmental Employee Service Center.
The County of Santa Clara complies with provisions of the State Military and Veterans Code, as well as the Federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). In addition, the County of Santa Clara Ordinance Code, Chapter VI, Section A25-680 relating to Military Leave of Absence provides employees with specific rights to salary augmentation and benefits in direct connection with an armed conflict.
