Unemployment Insurance Funding

The funding level for the Unemployment Insurance program is based on recent claim history, estimated program administration costs, and the requirement to maintain a reserve consistent with adopted funding policy. Actual claim amounts for the most recent four quarters are used to esimate the funding requirement for the upcoming fiscal year. Unemployment Insurance operates under an internal service fund that collects revenue from user departments to fund the cost of program operation. The program charges department by applying an unemployment rate per dollar of salary paid by the department.
