The Home Composting Education Program is accepting applications
until Monday, November 12, 2012, for
the Master Composter Training Class of 2013. Students learn the art
of turning leaves, yard trimmings, and food scraps into a valuable
soil amendment to improve their lawns and gardens. Nearly 35% of what
Santa Clara County residents throw in the garbage or leave at the curb can be
easily composted at home. Composting is a major component in each city’s
plan to reduce the amount of waste going to local landfills.
The
Master Composter program is also a great place to meet new likeminded people.
Master Composter Program graduates contribute a minimum of 50 hours back to the
community teaching home composting workshops and promoting the program at
public events throughout Santa Clara County. They become a valuable and
valued part of the Home Composting Education Program.
The Class of 2013 will meet on Wednesday mornings from 9am – noon at 1555 Berger Drive in San Jose from January 9 – March 13. The cost of the class is $50. Fees may be waived upon request. Questions, call 408-918-4640 or email compost@aem.sccgov.org.
