How the Re-Use Program works:
In order to encourage material re-use and waste minimization, the Santa Clara County Household Hazardous Waste Program has established a Community Reuse Program. It is our goal to encourage the "Reuse, Reduce and Recycle" philosophy. Unused or left over paints, cleaners, garden products, automotive products, propane and butane tanks, pool chemicals, and other reusable products would not be considered hazardous waste if they can be reused. This not only allows residents to save money by picking up FREE items, but also reduces the amount of pollutants that will inevitably escape into the environment.
Our facility in Sunnyvale has a series of containers stocked with the day's collected reusable household products. Residents have the opportunity to view these containers for any items they desire. Everything is FREE, and you may take as much as you want. Please keep in mind that the quantity and variety of stock varies greatly on the day's collection, and you must be courteous of others also looking for reuse products. All items are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Assistance is available for disabled or senior residents who need assistance carrying their items to their vehicles.
Operating hours & location:
The Reuse Program is only offered on specific operating days and hours. Currently, the reuse area is only available at our Sunnyvale facility. This facility hosts the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off every 3rd Saturday of the month, except December. Reuse operating hours are from 1:30pm to 2:00pm.
