County of Santa Clara Social Services Agency to Host 21st Annual Senior Wellness Fair

Hundreds Expected to Attend, Benefit from Information and Services
WHAT:
Santa Clara County Social Services Agency Department of Aging and Adult Services, in partnership with San Jose State University’s CHAMP (Center for Healthy Aging in a Multicultural Population), the Timpany Center and the Friends of Human Relations Commission invite residents to the 21st Annual Senior Wellness Fair. 
 
The Senior Wellness Fair targets elders in Santa Clara County and gathers over 45 agencies  ready to offer information, nutrition tips, screening, resources and networking for consumers, caretakers and community providers.
 
Hundreds of participants are expected to attend to benefit from free flu shots, advice nurse consultation, demonstrations, and other services.  There will also be fun activities, including a raffle and raffle prizes.

WHY:
In the US, someone turns 65 years old every 8 seconds.  In 2010, 11 percent of Santa Clara County’s population was over 60 years old.  By 2040, the number is expected to increase to 17 percent with the largest growth in the 85+ age group.  This fair provides older adults with information about services and resources available in their community to ensure their health and well-being.
