County of Santa Clara to Host Ninth Annual Binational Health Week

Thousands to Benefit from Health  Resources, Activities and Services Scheduled from October 1-23
WHAT:
Santa Clara County’s 9th Binational Health Week (BHW) Opening Ceremony launches an annual series of health education and health promotion events that include workshops, health fairs and screenings, and insurance referrals for underserved immigrants from Latin America in Santa Clara County. This year, Santa Clara County’s Binational Health Week will focus on access to Health Care and Health Care Reform, infectious disease and chronic disease.

WHY:
Binational Health Week is one of the largest mobilization efforts in the Americas, encompassing an annual weeklong series of health promotion and health education activities and services. Booths addressing lung health, illness prevention, stroke information, breast health and other health/wellness issues. Health clinic referrals, flu shots, garden and nutrition activities, ZUMBA, dental services, oral hygiene information.
 
Bay Area National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (BANLAAD)
Día Nacional para la Conscientización del SIDA en Latinos de el Área de la Bahía

In collaboration with various organizations, BANLAAD invites Latino youth and adults to receive free HIV testing, glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings. Guests are also invited to participate in an AIDS panel discussion.  Participants will receive health information on Bay Area resources for families and individuals with AIDS.  The event will have entertainment, including Aztec dancers, photo exhibitions, raffles, and zumba. Free lunch for participants!
