County to Celebrate Third Annual Salute to Military Women for Their Service and Contributions

 

WHAT:
The Third Annual County of Santa Clara Salute to Military Women is a public recognition to acknowledge the sacrifice and contributions of women who are currently enlisted, or have previously served in the Armed Forces. A panel with veteran and military women, and a photo display of Women in the Military and a resource fair in the County Government Center breezeway with dozens of service providers complement the commemoration. Event is hosted by the County of Santa Clara, the Office of Supervisor George Shirakawa, the Office of Women’s Policy, San José Councilmember Rose Herrera, State Assembly member Jim Beall Jr., and Honorary Co-Host Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren.

WHY:
Today, 15 percent of active duty military personnel are women. Of the 1.7 million of U.S. women veterans, 165,000 reside in California – more than any other state. The County of Santa Clara honors the contributions of women in the military and is committed to connecting military women and their families to provide them with information and services that assist with their specific needs and support during their transition to civilian life. Community agencies and organizations will share resources and information. One of four Mobile Veterans Resource Vans in the state will be on site.
