County to Dedicate “Gathering Place for Peace” in Memory of Jim McEntee

WHAT:
Elected officials, interfaith organizations and community members will come together as the County unveils and dedicates the “Gathering Place for Peace” in memory of Jim McEntee Sr. This public art project includes a glass mural and a gathering place surrounded by benches with a “dove” tile design in the center to reflect McEntee’s simple style, commitment to peace and social justice, and lifelong solidarity with the poor. All County residents are invited.

WHY:
Jim McEntee Sr., who passed away in September 2004, served as the Director of Human Relations for Santa Clara County for 27 years and dedicated his life to peace, social justice, and building a sense of community in Santa Clara County.
In May 2005, the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors named the plaza in front of the main government center, at 70 West Hedding Street, the James P. McEntee, Sr. Civic Center Plaza. In February 2008, the Board of Supervisors committed $15,000 to the Jim McEntee Legacy Project, and approved the conceptual artwork and “Gathering Place for Peace” design for the James P. McEntee, Sr. Civic Center Plaza. This effort was spearheaded by the Jim McEntee Legacy Committee, an organization made up by family and friends.
