“Topping Off” Ceremony Brings Construction of County’s Downtown San Jose Clinic to Next Phase

WHAT:
The completion of the steel framing is a milestone in the construction of County of Santa Clara’s new downtown San Jose health center. At the beam topping ceremony, officials and construction workers will sign the last steel beam before a crane hoists the beam onto the structure to symbolically bring the construction to its next phase. The construction of the new health center will be completed in late 2015.

WHY:
The new downtown health center is a culmination of nearly a decade of community support to improve health services in the downtown core of San Jose. As part of the 2008 Measure A, nearly $50 million in public funds have been allocated to construct the new building on the site of the old San Jose Medical Center, which closed in 2004.  The health center will be jointly operated by Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) and Gardner Family Health Network.  The 3-story facility will include:
•          Urgent care center for both adults and children
•          Primary care service for pediatric, OB/GYN and family medicine
•          Behavioral health services
