WHY:
Refugees from many regions of the world, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia resettle in Santa Clara County. The refugees are victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, Iraqi and Afghan Special Immigrants, unaccompanied alien children, and victims of sexual and gender based violence. Many lived in camps for decades where they were deprived of basic human rights. The World Refugee Day recognizes the contributions refugees make to the local community, celebrates their cultures and provides resources for them.
