Santa Clara County to Celebrate 21st Annual World Refugee Day

 
WHAT:
The United Nations declares June as the Refugee Month. In Santa Clara County, refugees from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia will gather on World Refugee Day to celebrate the diversity, strength and beauty of the local refugee communities. The event recognizes the contribution of refugees, and promotes an understanding of the refugee communities.
 
Entertainers from a broad range of refugee communities will perform during World Refugee Day.  In addition, participants can find resource information regarding local services.  Light refreshments will be served.

WHY:    
Santa Clara County receives refugees from many regions of the world. These refugees include victims of trafficking, survivors of torture, unaccompanied alien children, and victims of sexual and gender based violence. Many of them have lived in camps for decades and have been deprived of basic human rights, including the freedom of movement and access to adequate medical care.
