SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF.—The Santa Clara County Office of Veterans Services is seeking nominations for the 2010 Friend of the Veteran Award for residents who have demonstrated their commitment to veterans in Santa Clara County. Nominations are due by April 1, 2010 to the Office of Veterans Services. The award recipient will be recognized during Veterans Appreciation Month in May.
The Office of Veterans Services established the Friend of the Veteran Award in 1991 to recognize community members for their outstanding support and dedication to veterans of Santa Clara County. Margie Lowe, a 90-year-old volunteer at the Veterans Affairs Clinic in South San Jose, received the award in 2009 for spending thousands of hours helping the elderly and disabled veterans, including serving coffees and leading Tai Chi classes and field trips.
“Many members of our community volunteer tirelessly to support our local veterans,” said Ken Kershaw, Director of the County Office of Veterans Services. “The Friend of the Veteran Award was created to honor Santa Clara County residents for their dedication and service to local veterans.”
