SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CALIF. – May is annual National Historic Preservation Month. Every year, the County of Santa Clara joins communities across the nation to celebrate and increase awareness of historic preservation. This month, the County Board of Supervisors and the Historical Heritage Commission invite the residents of Santa Clara County to celebrate the County’s historical and cultural heritage by participating in the “See! Save! Celebrate!” photo-sharing campaign.
The “See! Save! Celebrate!” campaign asks residents to take photos of their favorite successfully-preserved landmarks, historic resources, and monuments in Santa Clara County and submit to the County Planning Office. The photos should be submitted to Priya Cherukuru, Historical Heritage Coordinator, at Priya.firstname.lastname@example.org. Photo submission deadline is 5:00 p.m., May 27, 2013.
“Santa Clara County has such a rich and vibrant history to share,” said Supervisor Ken Yeager, President, County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors. “This campaign lets residents capture local landmarks and other treasures so the public can enjoy them for years to come.”
The Historical Heritage Commission will host an exhibition of the submitted photos on May 30, 2013, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m, at the County Administration Building at 70 West Hedding Street, San Jose. The exhibition and reception are co-sponsored by the County of Santa Clara Planning Office and California Pioneers of Santa Clara County, a local non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the knowledge and awareness of history through an education enrichment program. County residents are welcome to attend this event.
On May 14, the Board of Supervisors will proclaim May 2013 as “Historic Preservation Month” to highlight the importance of historic preservation in Santa Clara County and bring increased awareness to County residents of the rich, diverse culture and history that formed our County.
“The proclamation and exhibition will provide an opportunity for the County to honor and recognize the works of local jurisdictions, historical preservation groups, museums, projects and individuals within the county who have contributed their invaluable work, time and efforts for the preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of important landmarks, historical resources and monuments within Santa Clara County,” said Jennifer Tate, Historical Heritage Commission Chairperson. “The Board and Historical Heritage Commission invite you to participate in this campaign and help get even more people involved in historic preservation.”
