SANTA CLARA COUNTY GOVERNMENT 101 ACADEMY QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

 
SCC GOV 101 ACADEMY is a program created and organized by the County of Santa Clara to help residents learn about County government operations, programs and services.
The purpose of the SCC GOV 101 ACADEMY is to help the public understand County government roles and services, improve residents’ participation in County government, and increase communication between the County and residents.
The program is open to residents who live in Santa Clara County and who meet the requirements outlined on the application.
There is a materials fee of $30 per person to offset some of the program costs. The fee can be waived in cases of financial hardship.
The program consists of 10 consecutive weekly sessions. Most sessions will take place on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. One ½ day session will be held on a Saturday (about the 6th or 7th week). A graduation ceremony is normally held during the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors meeting.
The classes will be held at various County facilities. Information on class locations will be included in each participant’s acceptance letter.
Because of space limitations, participants may not bring any guests to the classes; however, they will be encouraged to bring one guest to the graduation ceremony.
In order to receive the SCC GOV 101 ACADEMY Course Certificate, participants must attend at least 9 of the 10 sessions. If you are unable to attend a session, please inform the Office of Public Affairs as early as possible. E‐mail SCCPublicAffairs@ceo.sccgov.org or call 408‐299‐5151.
Being more informed about your County government will enable you to determine how you might become more engaged. There are ongoing opportunities to participate in County public meetings, apply for open positions on advisory boards and commissions, or to serve as volunteer to help with various County programs that rely on volunteers.
