Historic Preservation Ordinance

On October 17, 2006 the Board of Supervisors adopted the Historic Preservation Ordinance, enacting Division C17 of the Santa Clara County Ordinance Code.
 
Basic components of the ordinance are: 1) purpose and intent; 2) definitions; 3) heritage resource inventory; 4) landmark designation criteria and process; 5) landmark alteration requirements and demolition procedures; 6) appeals; 7) hardship determination; 8) maintenance; and 9) enforcement.
 
The Board of Supervisors updated the Historic Preservation Ordinance on December 1, 2009 to clarify the owner consent process for landmark designation.
