Santa Clara County Certified Child Abuser’s Treatment Program
As of January 1, 1997 the Probation Department became responsible for approving and monitoring Child Abuser’s Treatment Programs that provide services to defendants ordered to attend a Child Abuser’s Program by the Criminal Court pursuant to Section 273a and 273d of the California Penal Code (for both misdemeanors and felonies). Prior to accepting referrals from the Court or Probation Department, the Department has assessed each program’s ability to meet the mandated standards.
Assembly Bill 3215 states offenders who are convicted of Section 273a of the Penal Code (Child Abuse/Endangerment) and/or Section 273d Penal Code (Child Abuse via Trauma Inducing Cruel Corporal Punishment) and are granted probation, shall be ordered to successfully complete no less than one year of a Child Abusers’ Treatment Program. Standards for these programs are specified in Section 273.1 of the California Penal Code.
