(Current Bridge # 37C0159, New Bridge # 37C0603)
Project Purpose: This project originates from the State-mandated bridge initiative to identify and improve seismically vulnerable bridges, a response to the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.
Project Work Description: The work consists generally of building a new bridge on an improved alignment, and removing the old bridge.
Originally envisioned by the seismic review as an in-place retrofit, during concept development it was determined that:
Project Work Schedule: Project construction work is scheduled for April through December 2015.
Due to the scope of the retrofit requirements, the age of the existing structure (built 1935), and the complexity introduced by prior bridge modifications, the bridge reconstruction was the best option.
Due to the geometry of the existing alignment, it was determined that an improved alignment would be necessary to comply with the current standards.
