Santa Clara County Improves Its Nutrition Standards
Prevent chronic diseases and premature death by eating healthier foods and drinking healthier beverages today!
Santa Clara County is focused on health and wellness and has recently adopted new Nutrition Standards. Effective July 1st, 2012,* you’re going to start seeing healthier changes to food and beverages that are offered, purchased or served at County facilities and provided by County departments.
The County serves more than 6 million meals each year. Knowing that the kinds of food that is served has a direct correlation to health, the County is taking the initiative as a role model, to offer healthier food and beverage options -- with maximum nutritional value -- as a strategy for preventing chronic diseases and premature deaths.
The County’s Nutrition Standards policy includes five venues: 1) meetings and events, 2) vending machines, 3) cafeterias and cafes, 4) leased properties and 5) custodial populations. View the County Nutrition Standards

* Exceptions are County meetings and events, which will have a transitional period and go into full effect by July 1, 2013.
