SACRAMENTO - Dr. Ron Chapman, director of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and state health officer, today warned consumers with soy allergies not to eat Glendora Quiche Company’s five-inch “America’s Finest Gourmet Quiche LORRAINE,” “America’s Finest Gourmet Quiche BROCCOLI,” “America’s Finest Gourmet Quiche SPINACH,” and “America’s Finest Gourmet Quiche GREEN CHILE,” with a date code prior to September 2, 2013, due to an undeclared soy allergen.
The parent company, AYOA, Inc. of Los Angeles, California, has initiated a voluntary recall of the various types of quiche which are sold primarily at Gelson’s Markets across the state. The recall was initiated after CDPH identified the labeling omission of the soy allergen during a routine inspection. No illnesses have been reported at this time.
The products are packaged in individual clear cellophane wrap. They are five inches in diameter, with a circular label, green and gold print, stating Glendora Quiche Co. America’s Finest Gourmet Quiche (LORRAINE, BROCCOLI, SPINACH, or GREEN CHILE varieties). The quiche ingredients are listed on the back panel. The date code sticker is on the front label. AYOA, Inc. immediately separated its entire inventory of recalled products and has notified retailers directly.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of a life-threatening allergic reaction that requires immediate medical attention should they consume these products.
Consumers who have experienced an allergic reaction after eating any of these products should contact their health care provider. Anyone observing the products being offered for sale is encouraged to call CDPH’s toll free complaint line at (800) 495-3232. Learn more at www.cdph.ca.gov
