Births and deaths in Santa Clara County are officially recorded by the Public Health Department. You can get copies of birth and death certificates from our Vital Records department. We provide birth and death certificates for the current and one previous year only. Older certificates are available from the Santa Clara County Clerk-Recorder or call 408-299-5688.

Vital Records also issues permits and transit letters for disposing of human remains, provides forms and assistance to people who want to amend records, and provides forms and acts as a qualifying witness for establishing paternity.
