Student/Youth Corner

As a young person, you may not be thinking about your health right now. But the reality is, how you take care of yourself now will make a big difference in your health as you get older. Teens and youth who eat right, get plenty of exercise, and avoid risky behaviors have a much better chance of becoming healthy adults.

The Public Health Department can help you stay on track with your health. We offer a variety of resources for making healthy choices and getting involved. For example, there are resources available that can help you stay safe on the road, whether you are riding your bicycle or driving, and prevent disease, including sexually transmitted diseases, as well as reports and data that can help you get your schoolwork done.

One way to get involved is through our youth coalition called Community Advocate Teens of Today (CATT). CATT encourages young people to live a healthy, tobacco-free lifestyle through education, outreach, and policy changes. CATT peer educators work to expose the tobacco industry’s manipulative marketing tactics aimed at youth.

There are also occasional volunteer and internship opportunities available at the Public Health Department that are open to students. See the Internship Opportunities page listed at right.
