On Monday, May 22, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in the ongoing case of bike shop burglaries in the Bay Area.
Detectives at the Sheriff’s Office West Valley substation arrested a 30-year-old San Jose resident at his home. Recovered at the house were two high-end bicycles taken from Evolution Bike shop in Cupertino. The man was booked into Main Jail on charges of multiple burglaries and possession of stolen goods. The suspect, now out on bail, is cooperating with investigators.
Detectives believe the suspect worked with other accomplices to break into nine South Bay bicycle shops. Most of the victims lost several high-end bicycles each, some valued at over $8,000. In each instance, the burglaries occurred during the night.
The Sheriff’s Office is in the process of retrieving the remainder of the stolen bicycles to be returned to the shops from which they were stolen.
