On November 9, 2005, at 1:46 A.M., the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office pursued an individual who was driving a stolen vehicle. In the suspects attempts to evade capture for his offences, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed head on into a tree at a high rate of speed. When the suspect lost control of his vehicle, he veered in the path of the pursing deputy, which caused him to also crash. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. INCIDENT: The Patrol Deputy saw the Suspect make an illegal U-turn in the area of Capital Ave. and Hwy 680 and made an enforcement stop. The Deputy saw that the license plate on the rear of the 2004 tan Toyota Tacoma pick up truck had a passenger car plate on it. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the suspect sped off and merged onto NB Hwy 680. The deputy followed. About two minutes into the chase, the suspect attempted to exit the freeway onto the Berryessa off ramp. As he did so, he veered right into the path of the pursuing deputy prior to crashing, head on into a tree on the off ramp. The deputy too veered to avoid contact with the out of control suspect vehicle. The deputy crashed into the trees and sustained non-life threatening injuries. The suspect reached speeds over 100 MPH. The suspect was in possession of a stolen vehicle and was wanted for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.
