The Office of the
Sheriff would like to notify everyone about a scam in which thieves have
taken advantage of unsuspecting victims. Acting as employees of the
water company, the suspects show up at a home and state there is a need
to enter based upon a water company need. While distracting the victim,
often the elderly, the suspects steal the victim’s personal property.
We want everyone to remember the following information given from the Santa Clara Valley Water District
"Anyone representing the Santa Clara Valley Water District would have an identification badge with them. Residents can always call the District
to verify their identification."
"Generally, all of our visits to homes would require a prescheduled
appointment. The Water District would have no reason to come inside
someone's home, unless they asked for a Water-Wise House Call, which is one of our conservation programs."—Susan Siravo. Spokesperson.
Also, please take the time to share this information with your family and neighbors who may be a target.
If these suspects contact you at your home we ask that you call 911 immediately.
Anyone with information about the suspects involved in this scam are
asked to call Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Rooks at 408-808-4500.
